Repeat prescriptions
There are several ways in which you can order repeat prescriptions:
- In person – Drop the repeat prescription slip into the prescription box in the porch. Please tick the medicines you require. If the repeat slip is not ticked, we will need to contact you to confirm which medications you need, which may delay your prescription.
- Using the NHS App – If you are registered for the NHS App, you can request your repeat prescriptions online.
- Using Patient Access – Submit your repeat prescription request using our patient online services system 'Patient Access'.
Please allow at least 3 working days for repeat prescriptions to be processed. This allows sufficient time for your prescription to be prepared, checked and signed by a GP. If requesting a repeat prescription by post, please include a stamped addressed envelope and allow up to one week for it to be returned.
Find a pharmacy
The NHS service search tool can help you find your nearest pharmacy.
Electronic prescription service
Crawford Medical Centre uses the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS). We encourage patients to use this service as it allows us to send your prescription electronically to your nominated pharmacy, meaning you do not need to collect a paper prescription from the medical centre.
Nominating a pharmacy
When you order repeat prescriptions using the NHS App or eConsult, you can choose a nominated pharmacy for your medication. Your prescriptions will automatically be sent there until you choose a different pharmacy.
Medication queries
If you have any questions about your medication, for example if it has not arrived at your nominated pharmacy, is causing side effects, or you are having difficulty taking it, please contact the practice or submit an eConsult form.
Remember, your pharmacist can help with many common medication queries.
Medication reviews
Regular medication reviews are required at least once a year. Some reviews may require blood tests before your medication can be reissued.
Please check the review date shown on your repeat prescription. You will need to book an appointment with a doctor or nurse before further prescriptions can be issued.
Prescription charges
Prescription charges apply in England only. Prescriptions are free in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
If you pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may save money by purchasing a Prescription Prepayment Certificate (PPC).
Help with prescription costs
In England, around 90% of prescription items are dispensed free of charge. You may qualify for free prescriptions if you:
- Receive certain benefits or qualify through the NHS Low Income Scheme.
- Are entitled to free prescriptions because of your age.
- Have certain medical conditions.
