HOW WELL DOES YOUR
GP PRACTICE WEBSITE WORK?

Can patients easily find out how to book an appointment, request a prescription or contact your practice? Can they use your website with a keyboard, screen reader or enlarged text? Our audit puts patient usability and accessibility first, combining hands-on review with automated testing to identify barriers and assess your site against NHS website usability guidance. We also check loading speed and performance as part of the overall patient experience.

£295 per practice website — a one-off audit fee.
Includes NHS website usability benchmarking, automated and manual accessibility checks, supporting performance tests and a prioritised written improvement report.

AUTOMATED TESTS.
HUMAN JUDGEMENT.

A tool can flag a missing image description or a slow-loading page. It takes a person to check whether a description makes sense or a patient can easily find out how to request an appointment.

We use both approaches to identify technical problems and the practical barriers patients encounter.

Accessibility

Automated scans and manual checks informed by WCAG 2.2 Level AA. We review keyboard navigation, visible focus, headings, link text, colour contrast, image descriptions, form labels and how content behaves when zoomed or viewed on a small screen. Representative screen-reader checks help identify barriers that a scan alone can miss.

NHS website usability benchmarking

A manual review using the NHS England GP website benchmarking and improvement tool. We assess its 50 criteria across seven core patient tasks, including finding appointment information, ordering repeat prescriptions and contacting or registering with the practice.

We check navigation, clarity of instructions and the availability of key information, highlighting gaps against the tool's usability criteria and relevant practice requirements. NHS benchmarking is an improvement framework, rather than a pass-or-fail certificate.

Website speed and performance

Automated performance tests on representative pages, including mobile and desktop checks of loading speed, responsiveness and layout stability. We manually review the results and look for causes such as oversized images, unnecessary scripts and slow third-party content.

CLEAR FINDINGS.
A PRACTICAL ACTION PLAN.

You receive a written report that explains what we found, why it matters and what to do next. Share it with your practice team or current website supplier to plan improvements.

  • A summary of your website's main strengths and problems.
  • Performance findings and accessibility barriers, with examples and affected page addresses.
  • Completed NHS usability benchmarking, recording criteria as met well, adequately or inadequately.
  • Recommendations prioritised by patient impact, with urgent barriers and quick wins clearly identified.
  • Suggested actions for your website supplier and for the practice team, such as technical fixes or clearer content.

WHAT THE
£295 FEE COVERS

One practice website, with detailed speed and accessibility checks on up to 10 representative public pages, plus the pages needed to complete the NHS usability benchmark.

We agree the page sample and delivery date with you before work begins. Larger sites, multiple practices and additional testing can be quoted separately.

A focused review of your public website

The sample normally includes your homepage, appointments, prescriptions, contact and registration information, plus representative page layouts or public forms where available.

The fee covers testing and reporting. Website changes, a rebuild and follow-up testing are quoted separately. We review links to external patient services, but do not test authenticated clinical systems or submit patient requests.

This is a sampled improvement audit, not an exhaustive accessibility certification, security penetration test or guarantee of legal or contractual compliance. Downloads and third-party services can be scoped separately if you need them assessed.
